AMTI Participates in Roundtable with Gov. McDonnell and Region 2000 Economic Leaders

Lynchburg, VA --  Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell spent time in Lynchburg on Friday, Feb. 26 at Central Virginia Community College to learn how the region is transitioning its economy during the downturn. This was part of a series of visits by the Governor to localities impacted by the recession, particularly those in Southside Virginia.

Virginia’s Region 2000 Partnership board members and investors were invited to participate in a presentation to the Governor at CVCC about the economic development assets in the region. Bryan David, Executive Director, Region 2000 Economic Development Council, Darrel Staat, President of CVCC, and Larry Hatch, President of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Inc. each talked about various aspects of the regional economy including workforce initiatives, technology based education and the region’s key business clusters.

Gov. McDonnell told the crowd of about 80 area leaders that he was impressed with the actions taken by business, government and education leaders in the region to transition the economy toward high paying jobs. He said he would do his part to attract new business to the region through statewide economic development incentives.
